The Iowa Urban and Community Forestry Council is proud to announce Chuck Porto with Iowa City Landscaping and Mary Gantz with Project Green from Iowa City as an Outstanding Local Partners for 2012. The award was presented at the 22nd Annual Urban and Community Forestry Awards Luncheon on April 17, 2012 held at the Stoney Creek Inn in Johnston.
These two organizations have partnered with the kindergarten teachers in the Iowa City Community School District for the past three years to support a curriculum designed to help every student in the district expand their understanding and appreciation of trees as an essential element in the community. This continuing partnership has provided thousands of dollars of individually selected trees, planting services, and dozens of classroom visits and presentations.
Iowa City Landscaping and Project Green are outstanding examples of Iowa’s community forestry organizations, by enhancing our forest resources. The trees planted and maintained by Iowa City Landscaping and Project Green will benefit Iowa City for future generations.
