Hi All,
The garage is clean and it was wonderful to see Project GREEN volunteers again! It turned out to be a beautiful morning as nine volunteers met for two hours to clean the garage. We were able to “give up” a few of our garage treasures, making space for our BIG surprise that will be housed inside the garage. Some volunteers gave $$$ donations to take home a few of the garage cast-aways to put into their home garages. Lots of decisions were quickly made asking, “Are we keeping this?”.
Some volunteers will be sorry as we got rid of two tarps leaving us with eight tarps this year. It seemed that there were LOTS of holes and damage to tarps after many years of collecting debris. We still have LOTS of used tools available. I think someone told me we had 27 kneeling pads. YIKES! That’s a lot of kneeling! I know Cindy took a car trunk full of our stuff to the Crowded Closet. Who knows, there might be others needing to do a lot of kneeling this year???
Anyway, the garage is ready to be rodent free and thanks to Josh Worrell (Iowa City Parks and Recreation Facilities Manager), it will be!
Volunteers in attendance were: Larry Allen, Diane Allen, Sue Mullins, Monica Hoherz, Rina Sjolund, Hetty Hall, Erin Buscher, Cindy Parsons, and Kate Ebinger. Thanks to Sue Mullins for bringing her home dolly. We were able to move very heavy bird baths to spots around the Gardens. Each volunteer stayed two hours, totaling 18 hours for early work to be added to our total 2025 volunteer hours. Also, three volunteers have donated time to early clean-up around the eight acre park: Jim Peters (4 hours), Cindy Parsons (3 hours) and Sue Mullins (8 hours). We will officially begin counting our weekly volunteer hours next Monday, May 5 from 9 – 11 a.m.
Here are the numbers for early 2025 Project GREEN work.
Friday, February 7 “Seed Sowing Party” at the Ashton House lower level: 29 hours, Monday, April 28 “Clean-up for the Ashton House garage”: 18 hours, and early clean-up: 15 hours. That’s a total of:
62 Project GREEN volunteer 2025 hours!
Many thanks to All!
Here are pictures taken after clean up.

There are more pictures to share, but will wait until next Monday, May 5 after Week 1 when the big surprise is announced to all Project GREEN volunteers, past and present.
Until then, happy gardening! Diane
