Week 13 is a BIG one for the PGG. It’s halfway through our volunteer season which lasts from the first Monday in May through the last Monday of October. In 2024, Project GREEN volunteers collected 637 1/2 hours after Week 13 and 2025’s volunteers collected 641 1/2 hours. Just four hours separate the two years, which is quite surprising! Read on to learn how the 2026, Week 13 hours compare.
There were 9 volunteers ready to weed and water when we met Monday, July 27 from 9 – 11 a.m. Those in attendance with their extra hours since we last met Thursday, July 23 were: Diane Allen 3 hours, Jim Peters 5 hours, Rina Sjolund, Evelyn Frey, Monica Hoherz 4 hours, Lisa Haverkamp MG hours, Mary Laughlin 3 hours, Cindy Parsons 3 hours, Erin Buscher. Our goals included: water everything (impossible!), pull weeds, put together new shelving unit for Ashton House (AH) garage, mulch where needed. Volunteers were reminded to stay hydrated. Project GREEN keeps cold bottled water in the AH lower level refrigerator for all. Volunteers were asked to NOT overdo their efforts. The 9 a.m. temperature was 81 degrees and by 11 a.m. the temperature was 83 degrees. With the “humiture” factored in. Humiture is a combined measure of air temperature and humidity that describes how hot or uncomfortable the air feels to the human body. It is a blend of the words humidity and temperature and is similar to the modern heat index. Our afternoon humiture temps were supposed to feel like 115 – 120 degrees. EEEE-gads!! Our air quality for the two volunteer hours ranged from 29 – 62, which began with fair air and ended with moderate air. Our rainfall since last Thursday was a big ZERO inches. It must be July!
