Hi All!
Isn’t it beautiful where we garden together? I often wonder who is strolling (sometimes with strollers), running, biking, sitting on park benches, fixing bicycle tires, playing in the park, enjoying time at a couple picnic tables, and staring through our Lunar Horizon moon gate from both sides as we carry on our weekly chores making the PGG a special place to visit. It would be fun to collect all the “thank you” and “we love what you’re doing here” comments.
There were 14 volunteers who worked at the Gardens for Week 16. They were: Diane Allen 2 1/2 hours, Vivienne Benson 2 1/2 hours, Jim Peters 8:30 – 12:30 plus an extra 1/1/2 hours, Monica Hoherz 2 hours, Mary Laughlin 1 hour, Linda Bergquist 1 hour, Lisa Haverkamp master gardener hours, Rina Sjolund 2 hours, Susan Ahrens 2 hours, Barb Hanson (welcome back!) 2 hours, Erin Buscher 2 hours, Barb Schintler 2 hours, Chris Ostrander 2 hours, Cindy Parsons 3 hours. Please let me know if your time listed is incorrect and thanks to Linda B for letting me know her Week 15 hours was incorrect. Our goals on Monday, August 17 were: weed and deadhead plants, water containers and wagons, fill the Baltimore Oriole feeder, clean and fill with fresh water our birdbaths. We watched for Sean Pearl and Bridget Cabrera (SLS nursery manager) arriving at 10 a.m. Ed Rinderspacher, Cindy and I walked the Gardens with Sean and Bridget and listed ideas for our “SLS (Sustainable Landscaping Solutions) Day of Giving” now planned for September 18, a Friday morning. Please pencil this date on your calendar, as it could change again.
Volunteers are encouraged to get their 2027 plant orders into Diane Allen by August 28. There are three catalogs to choose plants, but if you’re unable to find what you want, include the plant name with your list. Cindy and I usually choose extra plants for any volunteer to use. For instance, a Gardens’ favorite is annual fountain grass and we often order extra. Please don’t fret if you cannot get your order ready by August 28. Send your list to me when you can. I’ll send it onto Dawn Bouslog at Pleasant Valley Greenhouses. She will include it with our 2027 Project GREEN order. Check out on line: PW 2027 Grower Resource Guide OR Tagawa Greenhouse 2027 Catalog OR catalog.ballseed.com. When ordering please include the catalog name, plant name, and how many plants are needed. Also include perennials and bulbs, rhizomes etc. Last year Pat Yeggy asked me, during the winter, to send our 2026 plant order to her. She was able to get a head start on having labels ready when we planted in the spring. Have fun doing this annual task!

= 831 hours for Project GREEN 2026 volunteers!

Our Week 17 begins Monday, August 24 from 9 – 11 a.m. When signing-in please record your extra time for Week 16, which includes August 17 (in the afternoon) – August 23.
